About Gordons Bay

Widely regarded as one of the Helderberg Region of Cape Town most popular destinations, Gordon’s Bay was named after Captain James Gordon – a Dutch Easy India Company captain who explored the region in 1778. Largely regarded as the Monte Carlo of South Africa — with it’s restaurants, bars and nightclubs on the beach road and Mediterranean climate.

Home to crisp white beaches that seem to stretch on for miles, Gordon’s Bay is famous for its sheltered sunbathing and inviting swimming conditions. Bikini Beach in particular has become a famous destination and usually attracts a massive crowd during the summer months. One of a handful of blue flag beaches in Cape Town, Bikini Beach is subject to strict standards of quality in terms of environmental cleanliness as well as the provision of facilities among other things.

Visitors to the area can enjoy meals ranging from pizza to quality seafood & enjoy a cocktail, or any sundowner really as they watch the sun set on the magnificent Gordon’s Bay. Plus, guests to the district can find a number of great restaurants offering mostly seafood options, in the harbour district overlooking the bay.

Due to its natural beauty and appeal as a tourist destination — Gordon’s Bay has attracted a large amount of nearby activities. For the more active visitors, Gordon’s Bay offers the opportunity to don the hiking boots and explore the Helderberg Nature Reserve. Alternatively, guests can walk up to the Steenbras Dam – the livelihood in terms of Cape Town’s drinking water – and overlook the entire False Bay. Also available in the area is the Blue Rock Cable Waterski which offers guests a chance to water-ski without a boat as well as general fun in the sun. Otherwise – for the less active guests – Gordon’s Bay is surrounded by a number of world class golf courses, perfect for a day on the greens.

The Helderberg Mountainside is lined with palatial structures precariously grasping the steep Helderberg Mountainside and gives testament to the rather elite group of residents who are lucky enough to call Gordon’s Bay home. With luxury accommodation with a view of the magical Gordon’s Bay sprawled out beneath it on offer from most Gordon’s Bay guest houses, it’s easy to understand it’s popularity. Conveniently located accommodation in Gordon’s Bay eases the choice when it comes to choosing an establishment with most of them offering additional services like conference venues in Gordon’s Bay.

Originally known as Fish Hoek as is inscribed outside the local Fish Hoek. The region has grown from strength to strength and has come a long way since it’s name was changed. The small Gordon’s Bay district is already the most popular destination in the Helderberg region and looks set to overtake it’s large, well known neighbours.
